Wedding makeup (part nine – Bride and Bridesmaid tutorial neutral eyes – Inspired by Sarah Shahi)

American skin (Sarah Shahi is my wedding look inspiration):

For this amazing neutral makeup look try these tutorials I did during the years I’ve been on Sugar (click on the image to go to the tutorial).
.

The thing about this look is that the eyes are neutral and you play up the lips. The first Sarah look has pink lipgloss that makes her look more youthfull. The second is a more brown that means you can work this look amazingly for fall, also with this type of lip you can alter your lipshape more then with a gloss. The third look adds a coral blush and lip, making it perfect for summer. The fourth look is a classic matte red lip, perfect for the young girl that wants to look a little older, I wouldn’t recommend a matte lip over the age of 35 because this ages you. The last is a neutral gloss.

As you can also see, the hair is very important in the looks, a loose updo gives a youthfull playfull fun character to the image and you can play with accessoires in your hair as well, don’t overdo the accessoires though. More can be more, but sometimes less is more aswell.

Remember if you’re not used to wearing heavy earrings, that you need to get used to them before the wedding if you’re planning on wearing heavier ones then usually or have a lighter pair stashed with your bridesmaid to switch earrings when they start to hurt. Yes beauty takes pain, but it’s your weddingday, you should have fun!! and not remember painfull ears or feet years later.

Top 10 Beauty Foods (according to Marie Claire)

1. Wild salmon: A primo source for omega-3 fatty acids, which reduce skin inflammation, preventing redness, wrinkles, and loss of firmness. It’s also potent in antioxidants and vitamins B and D.

2. Low-fat yogurt: In one word, calcium. Good for strong bones, nails, and teeth. One cup of plain low-fat yogurt has more calcium than a glass of skim milk.

3. Oysters: The best source of zinc, period. Zinc helps build collagen, which supports the structure of skin and speeds up renewal and repair.

4. Blueberries: Full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatories that prevent long-term cell damage.

6. Sweet potatoes: Chock-full of beta-carotene, something the body converts to vitamin A, which keeps skin smooth and is thought to protect against sun
damage.

7. Spinach: This nutrient-dense leafy green is a great source of beta-carotene and lutein, which protects the eyes.

8. Tomatoes: Perhaps the only vegetable best eaten processed. Tomatoes are a major source of lycopene, a potent antioxidant also thought to protect against sunburn.

9. Walnuts: A key source of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E. The omega-3s found in walnuts also help fight against skin ailments like psoriasis and eczema.

10. Dark chocolate: Full of antioxidants and nutrients, cocoa (choose chocolate with at least 60 percent cocoa) increases blood flow to the skin, which in turn boosts hydration, smoothness, and protection against sun exposure.

What do you keep in your makeup bag??

Hi everyone,

I stumbled upon this piece from the New York magazine Fashion (The Cut Beauty News section – for source and entire story go here: http://nymag.com/daily/fashion/2010/07/post_27.html), that talked about what Pat McGrath keeps in her makeup bag.

So here are her essentials:

SKII Signs Eye Mask: I carry these to pop on during long-haul flights. They plump the skin around the eye and get rid of dark circles and simply feel refreshing when in the drying environment of the plane.

Olay Regenerist UV Defense Regenerating Lotion: A nice, rich moisturizer with the anti-aging benefits of the Regenerist line.

CoverGirl Queen Collection Natural Hue Minerals Bronzer: I brush this onto my cheeks and brow bone to warm up my complexion. The formulation has a subtle highlighting sheen which will give the face a radiant look.

Eyelash curler: I always curl my lashes before adding mascara. It makes my eyes really stand out and look naturally gorgeous.

Dior Addict Lip Glow Color Reviver Balm: This lip balm appears to be colorless, but when applied gives the lips a healthy color and slight sheen. It works on all skin tones.

Emergen-C Packets: To keep colds at bay. They also provide a nice natural source of energy.

CoverGirl Queen Collection Natural Hue Concealer: Perfectly camouflages imperfections for a smooth finish. The coverage is natural and blends with your skin tone.

Espa Soothing Body Oil: Helps me relax and overcome jet lag when flying to Europe.

Dolce & Gabbana Smooth Eye Color Quad in Champagne: I love [using] the smoky-brown shade to create a tone on the lid and add depth to my eyes.

I did a post on my makeup bag last august (click here if you haven’t seen it) and I was wondering, what do YOU keep in your makeup bag??

Never judge a polish from it’s bottle colour

Hi everyone,

I went grocery shopping in Germany yesterday and in the cosmetics isle I always look for products we don’t have (like Neutrogena, which they used to sell but now only 2 products, so that was also a huge disappointment, because now I have to have it shipped from England). There were some UMA polishes and the one I got named Arctic Blue (from the “Ready to go in 60 sec!” line was looking like a bit of the Northern Lights in a bottle. Now I’ve been looking for a polish that looks like the Northern Lights forever so I got it straight away (no testing or swatches available). At home I first had the disaster with the Seche Vite and then I used this (on a Nubar basecoat). I placed one coat, “hmmmm, not really pigmented is it?”, two coats “No buildup???”, three coats “Why is this polish not buildable?”, four coats “Hey, it’s slightly more opague.”, FIVE coats “Okay, I’m done, let’s hope it does dry quickly!!!”. It did dry fairly quickly for FIVE coats, but it wasn’t 60 seconds anymore (but that was to be expected with FIVE coats).. Did I tell you this is FIVE coats?? Seriously, I’m soooo disappointed, I might try it again in a month over a light blue as a slight added shimmer, but I’m afraid this polish will end up in the “will never use again box”.

Now this polish was obviously not meant to be opague, but I personally think that it doesn’t really look good with one coat. So…. here are the pictures for you all to judge.

The purple-pinkish sheen the bottle had also disappears on the nails…. so I first thought it should look like ice, but I’ve never seen ice with a golden sheen, it’s a very sheer blue with a gold shimmer in it on the nails. :(

I wanted it to have the feel of (pictures are saved on my laptop for ages so I have no idea where they came from or who should have credit for these)

Why I’m throwing away my Seche Vite NOW!!

Hi everyone,

Reason I’m writing:

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know I’ve done a Seche Vite v.s. OPI twice. Once here on a Rimmel London polish and once on a China Glaze polish. Today I bought the sweetest UMA nailstickers in Germany and I wanted to set these on my Nubar, Bonjour nails. The polish was looking good and I thought some nailart would make them perfect. After placing the stickers I needed a topcoat to seal the stickers in, and I took the Seche Vite because I thought I’d use it again. Well, I shouldn’t have. Within half an hour my polish had “shrunk”. Meaning the edges where thin and rugged and my polish felt odd, it was dry though, so I went on to cook and eat and sit behind my computer.

I started with this pretty picture:

And now (3 hours later) it looks like this:
I had to check if it was just the edges, and to my suprise, I could take all of the polish off:

I’m honest and I seriously hate this topcoat. Maybe it’s my nails that repel the product, but I’m throwing the rest of my bottle away and I’m NEVER buying it again.

Sarcastic: On the upside, if I keep it, I’ll never need nailpolish remover again.

Blue gives you wings!

Hi everyone,

I was still in a Formula 1 mood today and I was thinking about the Red Bull gives you Wings slogan so I did a Blue Winged eyeliner look ;)

Skin:
I primed my clean and well moisturized face with Make Up For Ever, HD Primer in 001 Neutral. The foundation I’m wearing here is Giorgio Armani Lasting Silk UV Foundation in 5.5, I used soooo little, you cannot believe that so little has such amazing coverage and blendability. As a concealer on my blemishes I used Make Up For Ever, Full Cover Concealer under my eyes I used Make Up For Ever HD Concealer which is an AMAZING concealer, I love the wand, it’s not a brush like the YSL Touche Eclat but a rubbery contraption which means that it stays clean sooo much better, seriously, this is a must try product! I powdered with Make Up For Ever – HD Powder to set the makeup and used a little Harmony (MAC) to contour.

Yes, I look cross eyed in this picture, you try not looking cross eyed whilst taking a picture up close and trying to see what you’re taking a picture of ;)

Eyes:
I started with my brows, normally I do nothing to them, but with a very defined eye, I thought a defined brow would look amazing. I used my Tweezerman tweezers to pluck any stray hairs and then used Cork and Models Own Angled Eyeliner Brush to add a little colour to them. I then used MAC – Soft Ochre as a base and some Brule to set it. With a MAC 266 Angled Liner Brush I took some MAC, Fluidline in Waveline and first made the outer corners. How did I make them even? Well, I first looked at the lower lashline and then used the brush to stamp the outer edge of the line first. I stamped it to look like the lower lashline continued upwards. I then slowly made the inner part of the line and then made it thicker on the outer corner slowly building up the line untill it went to the top part of the stamped line. I then waited for the line to dry and then used a blue eyeliner by Sephora to line my lower and a black Urban Decay – 24/7 pencil in Zero on my upper lashline. I curled my lashes a little and then used Rimmel London Sexy Curves in waterproof Black.

Lips:
On my lips I’m wearing Stila, Cherry Crush Cheek & Lip Stain with a clear gloss.

I hope you liked it.

Bonjour

Hi everyone,

This is the current nailcolour I’m sporting. It’s three coats of Nubar Bonjour. First coat was streaky, second was good, third was perfect. No bubbling! Dried quickly thanks to Essie quick drying drops.

No7 – 75th Anniversary Trio Eye Shadow

Hi everyone,

For those of you that don’t already know, Lisa Eldridge began working with established British cosmetics brand, No.7, as their Creative Director in 2003, working on the re-design and re-launch of this cult brand. The position involved using all of her vast experience in product development, formulation, colour, design, consultant training and P.R. The result of this collaboration can be seen in stores throughout the U.K and Ireland. New No.7 is currently being launched into the US, across Europe and the Far East.

75th Anniversary Trio Eye Shadow is a part of the Limited edition No7 Decades Collection. It’s been made to celebrate 7 decades of beautiful colour from the fourties to the noughties.

My sister brought me back 3 palettes from London and the ones she got me are:

Electric 80s,            Swinging 60s     and The Noughties

For the Fabulous 40′s they have mainly neutral colours.
The Flirty 50′s bring a trio with a light blue a lime and a bright blue.
The Swinging 60′s is a white, grey and a darker grey.
The Supreme 70′s bring a lilac, lavender and a turqoise (all pastel).
The Electric 80′s is a bright blue, orange and green.
The Feisty 90′s are peaches.
And the Noughties give is 2 purples and a green.

There are looks for all of these palettes and I’m going to try and show you the looks that go with the three palettes I’ve got soon.

What I can tell you is that No7 had upped her game and is now a pretty amazing brand, they give you the freedom to buy season colours without breaking the bank. Try and get your hands on some of the products and see for yourself. I can tell you that the tinted moisturizer (with SPF) is light and has enough coverage. The creams and serums are wonderfull (they smell good too) and the makeup is well pigmented.
