How to contour your face.

Hi everyone,

Well, I’ve been talking a lot about contouring since I think about the end of October last year, and I showed a little in the Halloween looks, but never an everyday contouring tutorial.

Now, it’s very difficult to show you guys on a face, because if you contour properly, you can’t actually see it. You blend it soo well, that your face shape looks different, but it isn’t. To show you guys the best way of doing your contouring, I drew a model on which I show you where you should put your highlight and your contouring colour. Also, you can use several different contouring tricks I’m talking about here to personalise it for your face.

For a highlight you can choose a light face powder, YSL Touche Eclat or an official highlighting powder, whatever you like. Professional makeup artists use a lighter foundation for highlighting. A highlighter can have a shimmer, a contouring powder (or stick or whatever you prefer). A contouring product is supposed to be matte, you’re creating a shadow on your face, shadows don’t shimmer or sparkle. Tip: most bronzers have a golden shimmer, so check really well before using a bronzer as a contouring colour. Professionals use a darker foundation for this, they add shimmer over this later on.

Here is another tip: Professionals contour whilst placing foundation, basically they start to contour with the foundation. We “mere mortals” contour over the foundation with a powder, a stick or whatever you prefer to use.

Slim down your face
The face under this text had contouring for people who have a round face but who do have naturally well defined cheekbones. Basically you create shadows on both sides of the face to make it seem more slim. Also you contour on and under your jawline to kill anything that hints to a double chin. The highlight on the nose and just above the apples of your cheeks pull the attention.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Slim down your face and add whatever you need to it

If you look at the face under this text, you see it’s almost the same, I just added some defining under the cheekbones to make them stand out a little more, also the highlight is less, this is a face you can build on, if you want a slimmer nose, you can add that, if you think you eyes are to wide, you contour them to seem closer together. When you’re done with your perfect face, then you highlight where you want the eyes to go, or you feel you need something to pull a feature out some more.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Contouring for a naturally heart shaped face

If you have a heart shaped face your forehead is somewhat wider and you have a more pointy chin. To counteract this, you create shadows on your forehead, making it seem smaller and on your chin making it a little shorter and thereby wider.
Also you add some highlighting on the sides of your jaw. If you have an undefined jawline, you can contour under this, but be careful not to blend too high with the contouring.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Shorten chin and/or forehead

If you feel like you have a high forehead, you can make it look lower if you add some contouring to the edge of your hairline, pulling it down so to speak. If you have a long chin, you can give the illusion of it being shorter by adding some contouring to the tip of the chin.
If you do both, you create a shorter face. As with all the contouring, blend well!!

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Higher (more defined) cheekbones

If you’re craving more defined cheekbones, or you wish they’re higher, try this trick of darkening under the cheekbones (you can feel the bones under your skin) and highlighting on top of them. If you want you can add blush on the apples, but make sure you’re not adding blush to the shadow part of the contouring because that would look very weird.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Slim down your nose

If you think your nose is too wide, here is how you slim it down: you add a highlight to the top and shadows to the sides. Sounds simple, and it actually is, just blend well, because you see every unblended line on a nose.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Shorten your nose

If you feel like your nose is too long, you add some shadow to the tip.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Wider set eyes

People forget that you can contour your eyes as well, usually this is done with eyeshadow, but on days you want to look natural, you can still cheat a little. If you want more bright eyes, use an eye brightener (I personally love Smashbox’s Photo Op, under eye brightener, which I use all over my eyes).
If you want more wide set eyes, try to add some matte slightly darker then your natural skin tone eyeshadow in your outer corners and work it into and a little above the crease. You can also use your contouring powder for this.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Make your eyes seem closer together

There are women who have very wide-set eyes, and who would love for them to be closer together. The best way to accomplish this is by adding a contour on the inside of the eyes and when you line your eyes to make sure you line the inner corner (with a waterproof eyeliner).

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Higher brows

With the illusion of higher brows, you create more open eyes and thereby a friendlier face. If you’re lucky you have this naturally, if you’re not, plucking your eyebrows can help a lot! Also highlighting under the brows adds a lightness to the eyes as well.

Rounder mouth

I have a friend who calls herself a wide mouth frog, she thinks her lips are thin and her mouth is too wide, with this trick I made her day, so here it is. You add some shiny highlighter to your Cupid’s bow and a MATTE highlighter on the out-most corners (I actually used a light concealer on her outer corners). Now if you line and fill in your lips, they look a lot less wide and more full.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

More youth-full face

This was news to me when I first read it on the Touche Eclat manual (yes, I read those papers that come with my products), but if you add touche eclat to the places where you get those non-youth-full lines you look younger.
This means you place it on frown lines and the lines that run from your nose to the corners of your mouth.
I always tend to add it to the balls of my eyelid and under my brow and on the top of my nose as well when I use this. I know why you’re supposed to place in on the wrinkles (to take the shadow out of it), but most products then seep into the wrinkles making them look even worse, but the touche eclat actually stays put on me, so it does work. Try this at home with the product you prefer, if it does seep into the wrinkle, then find a touche eclat tester and test it, if it doesn’t budge on you and you like the way it looks….. buy it ;)

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I hope you guys liked this post!! Try it on your face, blend well and after a while you’ll probably add a darker colour contouring product to your morning routine (like I did). The first time I was using a very little contouring, now I use a colour that is much darker, but works much better, it’s all in the blending.

Big hug!!

Valentine….

Hey everyone,

I was thinking about doing a look for February 14th…. but, I’d like to know, what is Valentine’s Day to you?

What do you do? What is your ultimate Valentine’s Day (even if it hasn’t happened (yet))? What colours would you wear? What kind of makeup would you wear? Neutral? False lashes? Dark? Colourfull? What makes this day a little more special then a “normal” day. Or do you hate al the hoopla and do you want a normal day instead? Any memories you want to share? Any movie that comes to mind? A song maybe?
Tell me everything! I’d really like to know.

Thank you for following my blog (and if you’re not, thanks for stopping by, come again!!), thanks for all your sweet words and tips, comments, reviews, you’ve made this place special and I appreciate each and every one of you.

Luv,
CCee

Poison Ivy (my Batman twist)

I know Poison Ivy in the old Batman & Robin movie (played by Uma Thurman) didn’t have green makeup and only green “eyebrows” at times, but I thought this name would fit this look and this look would have fit her. I’ve been growing a garlic plant and today I repotted some houseplants so going green on my eyes wasn’t such a leap, also I haven’t done green eyes in forever.

I didn’t use many things on my eyes today, so all the magic is in the blending.
1) I used Urban Decay, Eyeshadow Primer Potion as a primer.
2) As the golden colour on my eyelid (up and into the crease) I chose my latest makeup addiction Bourjois, Shimmering Shine Liquid Eyeshadow in Molecule d’Or 31 which is a golden colour that’s very shiney.
3) In my crease and in my inner and outer corner I used Urban Decay Eye Shadow in Mildew which is a deep mossy green. I placed this with a slanted brush and blended with a dome brush (for more precision in the blending).
4) On the lower 2/3 or my eyelid and upper 1/4 lashline (on the outside of the eye) I placed a very thin line of Urban Decay, 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil in Stash which is a dark green/gold. I also went over my waterline with this pencil.
5) As a highlight under my eyebrow I used Smashbox, Matte Eyeshadow in Vanilla. Placement was with a large shadow brush. If you pull the colour down you can lower the green if you’ve gone up too much. Also I used this colour under my eyes a bit (over my concealer) because I’m ill and I wanted a little extra colour to hide some of this. This is an amazing trick, find a matte eyeshadow that’s the extact colour (or a little lighter) then your natural skincolour (don’t judge in the container, judge on your skin) and if you’ve got a colour that’s perfect, you can use this over your concealer to hide things that a concealer and powder don’t completely hide.
6) The mascara I used was the Korres Provitamin B5 & Rice Bran Mascara which is a light and soft mascara for my now very sensitive eyes.

My sister’s eyes

Hi ladies,

My sister was sweet enough to let me put make up on her eyes even though she doesn’t usually wear makeup and isn’t a makeup-skinfreak like me. The inspiration was Penelope Cruz’s smokey brown eyes, but without any liner on the waterline.

As you can see in this final eye, we have practically the same eyecolour, but she’s blonder then me and has very different eyebrows.

Skincare:
On her face she used Clinique Superdefence SPF 25 moisturizer.

Face:
As a primer I used Smashbox – Hybrid 2 in 1 Primer, which illuminates and gives the rest of the makeup something to adhere to. Also this makes the skin feel very soft.
What was left in the Clinique Superfit Makeup tester in 05 neutral (MF-N) (dry combination to oily skin (skin types 2,3,4)) that I used on my skin in the Challenge 15 Victoria Beckham – Elle US January 2008 Tutorial was mixed with Lancaster – Infinite Bronze Face Bronzer (15 SPF) to create a slightly bronzed skintone.

For a concealer I used the same colour that fits my skintone (we’re sisters, so much is the same ;) ) Smashbox – Camera Ready Concealer in 3.0 which I applied with the Smashbox – Concealer brush no.4. I set the makeup with Make Up For Ever – HD powder placing it with my favourite Sephora, no. 45 Mineral Powder Brush.

To add a little extra healthy glow I added some Givenchy – Prismissime Mat & Glow Limited Edition in 72 Sunny with the Smashbox – Fan Brush no. 22. As a contour I used Smashbox, Pressed powder / Bronze Lights Duo in Fair/Light because it’s light enough so create a real shadow. Over this I used the bronzer from Smashbox, Blush / Bronzer Duo in Cosmopolitan nearest to her ears (there where the most shade naturally is). I did all my contouring with Smashbox, Angled Blush Brush.

Eyes:
As an eyeshadow primer, I used Urban Decay, Eye shadow Primer Potion, this works great on me and also on my sister. As a base colour I chose Smashbox, Vanilla Eyeshadow which I applied with the Smashbox, no. 26 Shadow Brush.

I used the medium brown colour from the Smashbox, Eye Shadow Quad Socialite, placing it with the no. 26 shadow brush again. I brought this up to and a little over the crease.

Penelope has a darker colour under her eyes then on top so I chose the Urban Decay, 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero to use in the lower lashline. I smudged this line out to a softer line with a Smashbox, Smudger brush no. 20. I thought this was still pretty harsh, also because my sister doesn’t like colour on the waterline so I deceided to soften and smudge the Zero even more using Smashbox, Cream Eyeliner in Putty with the Smashbox, no. 15 definer brush.

Looking back I probably wouldn’t have put any liner on her waterline anyway because that makes the eyes look smaller and that’s not what I wanted on her.

As an eyeliner I used the Smashbox, Cream Eye Liner Pencil in Midnight brown which I smudged out a little to add more depth to the lashline. To give the appearance of thicker lashes I also added Smashbox, Cream eyeliner midnight brown to her lashline with the Smashbox, arched liner brush no. 21.

I mixed Smashbox, Brow tech Blonde and Brunette to darken the start of the brows a little bit.

As a mascara I used Smashbox, Bionic Mascara in Black.

Lips:
On her lips I used Smashbox, Lip Enhancing Lip Gloss – True colour in Bare which is a slightly shimmering neutral gloss.

Summer nails (2009)

Hi ladies,

Remember when I posted about the summer nail trends of 2009?
Well, I wanted to start today, I have a cold, no voice and I felt like bright nails would cheer me up (and I couldn’t smell the nailpolish which was an added bonus).

Soooo here are my nails…. and yes all my fingers are crooked, I played volleyball when I was younger and well, all my fingers have been hurt at one time or another.

Lamplight:

Sunlight:

The nailpolish I used is Wild & More Speed dry nail polish so only available in the UK I think.
But this is just to give you an idea of yellow nails, many brands will bring out popping colours this summer.
Example:
- Creative nail polish in Hot Pop Yellow
- USLU AIRLINES – Nailpolish CAB
- Sephora by OPI in the colour Cab Fare

Other exaples are (I’m not sure these are still sold):
- China Glaze, Solar Power ($3.99)
- Rescue Beauty Lounge, Yellow Fever ($18)
- MAC, Phosphor ($10) This color is most like the one I wear here.
- Essie, Shorty Pants, $8
- OPI, Lemonade Stand By Your Man, $8.50
- OPI, Need Sunglasses?
- OPI, Curry Up Don’t Be Late! OPI India Collection (this is more golden then yellow)
- Chanel, L.A. Sunrise

Urban Decay Lipstick and 24/7 eyeliner swatches

Hi everyone,

I recently ordered some Urban Decay Lipsticks online, even though I said I wasn’t going to order any more makeup for a while, I did find out that I don’t have many lipsticks (I know that sounds like a lie but it isn’t).
I have palettes, but they’re not as easy to bring with you; and when I, do I’m too embaressed to touch up my lips in public or in a public restroom. When I see friends (mainly men) they laugh at me, so I almost never bring lipstick with me.
Also I’m one of those “put it on in the morning, and I’ll see if it dared to migrate to” when I go to bed at night and take off my makeup.

I do have several lipglosses though, ;)

But I only have these lipsticks:
# Bourjois, Rounge Connection – no. 13
# Rimmel London, Lasting Finish Lipstick – no. 124 Bordeaux
# L’Oreal, Colour Riche (for Blondes) – 233 Boreal/Taffeta
# L’Oreal, Invincible – 625 Purple Obsession
# Max Factor, Crushed Berry 855
# Smashbox Decadence Photo Finish Lip Luxe Limited-edition! in Socialite

So that’s not many is it? So I ordered some lipsticks I’ve been craving ever since they got available.
Urban Decay The Iconic Lipstick – Rush (neutral pink)
Urban Decay The Iconic Lipstick – Wanted (warm berry)
Urban Decay The Iconic Lipstick – Gravity (rich red)
Urban Decay The Iconic Lipstick – Gash (blood red)
Urban Decay The Iconic Lipstick – Revolution (true red)

Badly enough I still want:
# Urban Decay The Iconic Lipstick – Apocalypse (blackberry)
# Urban Decay The Iconic Lipstick – Jailbate (nude)
# Urban Decay The Iconic Lipstick – Midnight Cowboy (sheer beige shimmer)

Sooo I got the order and I’m really really happy!!
The extra cap I ordered because it’s easier to get your favourite if you have it in that cap, also it’s a limited edition thing and I have a weak spot for those kind of goodies.
I love the packaging, they feel very heavy in your hand, also the lipsticks feel very creamy on your lips!

First let me show you the lipsticks:
Sunlight:
Flash:
From left to right the colours are:
- Gravity
- Revolution
- Rush
- Gash
- Wanted

Now I did a swatch for you guys and the colours don’t look as amazing on the pictures as they do in real life, but I can’t change that so…
Sunlight:
Flash:

The colours are:
Top left: Urban Decay The Iconic Lipstick – Gravity (rich red)
Top right: Urban Decay The Iconic Lipstick – Revolution (true red) – more pink then I thought, but maybe on the lips it looks more red red…
Middle: Urban Decay The Iconic Lipstick – Rush (neutral pink)
Bottom left: Urban Decay The Iconic Lipstick – Gash (blood red) – more purple-ish red then Gravity, also a little darker.
Bottom right: Urban Decay The Iconic Lipstick – Wanted (warm berry)

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Also there’s been a lot of talk about the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencils lately, so I thought I’d show you guys some swatches of these as well.
There are two sets that Urban Decay brought out, the fan favourite of the Holiday season of 2007 and a new set for 2008. You can find the sets at Urban Decay’s website.
The 2008 set is called Velvet Rope and these colours I use most.
From left to right the colours are: Yeyo (metallic white), 1999 (plum w/ teeny gold glitter), Zero (zealous black), Bourbon (brown w/ teeny gold glitter), Stash (dark green/gold)
The 2007 set is called VIP and these colours pop more.
From left to right the colours are: Zero (zealous black)(not photographed again), Lucky (brilliant deep copper), Covet (peacock green), Electric (bright aquamarine), Lust (plush purple)
I didn’t photograph Zero twice, I did however add two other eyeliners I also own which I LOVE!! The colour on the second row most to the right is called Honey (24K gold) and the colour on the third row is Gunmetal (gunmetal w/ teeny silver glitter).

Here are the swatches:

How to clean your makeup brushes

Marlena at makeupgeek.com did a video tutorial on how to clean your brushes.
I thought this was a great tutorial and I wanted to share it with you.

Do make sure not to use too much pressure because your bristles can be damaged.
Also don’t do this type of swirling on a paper towel with fine eyeliner brushes because you’ll kill it. A fine eyeliner brush should be cleaned after every use, while the product hasn’t dried yet, you clean those with babyshampoo or even use the same method only keep the brush pointing downward to and be gentle to keep the tip pointy and let that dry flat (or in a bit of paper towel to keep the bristles from sticking out).

I always clean the brushes I use for “wet” application directly after use (that includes foundation brush, concealer brush, etc etc.) because otherwise it will dry a bit and you’ll be putting old makeup on your face the next day. If you knew how many bacteria build up in there,…. you’ll be shocked!!

For everyday cleaning of my eyeshadow brushes, see the other video-tutorial I found by Julia here

Challenge 15 Victoria Beckham – Cover Elle US January 2008 Tutorial

Hey guys,

Maybe you like to see how I actually take on these Challenges… I don’t know, but here is the entire process for the Victoria Beckham Challenge, if you like it like this, tell me in the comments

Research part of the look:

Did you know that Victoria has (had) a makeup line? Their own site dVb style is currently being updated so I’m not sure if they still have the line or if it tanked. I do have to admit that the line looks quite amazing and I’d never heard of it before. BellaSugar had blogged in 2007 but I wasn’t here then so I didn’t read it. You can find more information on V-sculpt here, here and , but the V-sculpt homepage is no longer online so I think it’s no longer sold/made.

I’ve been searching for some great HQ pictures of her eyes and I was pleasantly suprised about how much she’s with her kids, I never realised. I’ve been very much aware of Victoria’s looks and everything because she’s someone I find very beautiful and if I ever get the dream chance to do her makeup, I’ll probably have trembling hands and be very very nervous.
She seems to me such a sweet, nice and gentle person with a great sence of humour, style and trends. I’ve gotten lots of inspiration through her book “That extra half an inch” (first cover) and now studying her makeup.

I found many many great looks, but for today I made a small collage of the eyes that pulled me in most. The Challenge eyes are in there as well so I’ll go in search for the best makeup colours from here. I’ll get some black waterproof eyeliner, black cream eyeliner, dark matte brown, a light brown and a matte highlighter from my makeup stash.

This great picture though, this is from a long time ago (around the time of her wedding). She’s not as serious as people perceive her to be.

I did notice one think when looking at her makeup, that there’s one thing I’d change about her makeup. I’d bring her eyebrows closer together. Her eyebrows are very far apart, maybe that’s how they grow, I don’t know. But compare the eyes from the collage to this set I made just now to give you an idea.

Makeup part of the look:

Skin
I started with my skincare today using MDSkincare – Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel this really is amazing stuff, pricey, but very great. As a moisturizer I used MDSkincare – Auto-balancing Moisture SPF 10 because after a peel you need a great SPF moisturizer. On my eyes I used Sleeping Peel Age Minimizing Eye Gel.

Face
I started my makeup with my favourite Smashbox Primer Hybrid 2 in 1 which is available again with the Muse collection. People have complained about the 2 openings in the tube (one for the primer and one for the luminizer). You have to hold your finger in front of one of the openings to get the mix you want. It isn’t perfect, but I don’t mind it that much, I love the product so I forgive the packaging Eye-wink .

As a foundation I used Clinique Superfit Makeup tester in 05 neutral (MF-N) (dry combination to oily skin (skin types 2,3,4) which I was really pleasantly surprised about. I used it on my sister as well, and I really loved how it blended into both our skins. Also it hid a lot of sins.
Because Victoria is pretty tan in the pictures, I used 2 drops of Lancaster – Infinite Bronze Face Bronzer (15 SPF) (no longer sold I think) to make the foundation a little darker. I’m never going to reach her level of bronzeness, but a little darker is achieved.

As a concealer I used my trusting Smashbox – Camera Ready Concealer in 3.0 with the no. 4 Concealer brush.

To set all my base I used Make Up For Ever, HD powder with the Sephora, no 45 Mineral Powder Brush (no longer available on the website, it is still sold here in the shops though).

I used an extra bronzer to add a little extra sunny glow to my face. I used Givenchy – Prismissime Mat & Glow Limited Edition in 72 Sunny, because that’s a limited edition it’s not available anymore either (sorry guys, I do have to use the makeup I’ve got once in a while). But there is a good alternative, also a Givenchy Prismissime only this one is called 34 Sunset. Even though both the Givenchys come with a brush I use my Fan Brush no. 22, by Smashbox because this creates a softer more natural glow and you have more control over the colour density.

To contour my cheekbones I used 2 contouring products both by Smashbox, I used the Pressed powder / Bronze Lights Duo in Fair/Light (no longer available on the Smashbox website, but it came from the Smashbox Master’s Class Vol. 3 Complexion Perfection – Light still available at Sephora in several colours). I used this colour to contour under my jawline and cheekbones. Then I used the
Smashbox, Blush / Bronzer Duo in Cosmopolitan from the Smashbox ‘Socialite’ Beauty Collection (also no longer available on the Smashbox website, but if you google it, you can probably still get your hands on it) also under my cheekbones, but I used it further towards my ear to make it look darker there and blend better with my normal skin colour thanks to the other contour colour. I placed both the contour colours with the Smashbox, Angled Blush Brush (only available in kits).

Eyes
As a primer I used my favourite ever!! the Urban Decay, Eyeshadow Primer Potion. There are many many primers out there, and the Urban Decay one is knows to work best on oily eyelids, but the packaging again isn’t perfect.

My eyeshadow base is Smashbox Eyeshadow in Vanilla (it’s a matte eyeshadow). I applied it with the Smashbox, no. 26 Shadow brush (only available in certain kits).

I looked at a lot of the pictures and she doesn’t use a highlighter under her brows much so I didn’t do that here either, if you want to, go right ahead! I did however use a highlighter on the inner corner of my eye, I used the lightest colour from the Smashbox Eye Shadow Quad also from the Socialite Beauty Collection. I blended it inward a bit with my finger.

Next I used the Smashbox, Cream eyeliner in Midnight Brown on the outer half of my eyelid (blending into and a teeny bit over the crease). I also used this on the lower lash line, blending the colour out as I was going inward

On the outer quarter of my eyelid I blended Smashbox, Cream eyeliner in Caviar into the brown, making sure not to blend further then 1/3 inwards. I also used this colour on my lower lash line again.
For both the cream eyeliners I used the Smashbox, no. 15 definer brush, which I love for blending cream eyeliners, cream eyeshadows and normal eyeshadows.

To darken my waterline I chose a product I know won’t budge after application. It’s especially made for the waterline and unlike waterproof eyeliner pencils (like Make Up For Ever, Aqua Eyes and the Urban Decay, 24/7 Glide on Eyeliner pencil this actually doesn’t run on me. The waterproof pencils stay on my waterline for maybe an hour before fading, on my eyes they stay very long and amazingly well, but for my waterline, I only go to JetSet liners by Smashbox, I used Midnight Black here. There are only 4 colours available, which I think is a very mean thing of them to do to me, but usually I use the black one anyway. If I want an actual colour on my waterline I would go to the Urban Decay liners before the Make Up For Ever lines because of colour pay-off. I used to apply the liner to my waterline with the no. 21 arched liner brush but ever since I saw a video where a Smashbox makeup artist used the no. 20 double ended smudger brush I use that too (I use the brush side for quicker application), the no. 21 is still a great choice for your top waterline if you’re new at this.

I thought my inner corner needed a little more of a kick so I used Bourjois, Shimmering Shine Liquid Eyeshadow in 37 Blanc Chrome as an extra highlight only on the inner 3 mm or something.

I went over the cream eyeliners with the no. 15 Definer brush and the dark brown from the Eye Shadow Quad Socialite (Smashbox), and blended the colour up a little more. This also blends the colours on the eyes even more.
I used as a matte black an amazing colour named Perversion from the Urban Decay, Book Of Shadows Palette, this palette is no longer available through the Urban Decay website, but if you google it, many companies still have it. The perversion colour is still available as a colour though from their website. As a brush I used the brush that came in the palette, I think it’s now sold as their Wonder brush.
I placed the colour at the out most corner and blended it inward on both top and bottom.

As a mascara I thought I’d use the Givenchy, Phenomen’ Eyes Mascara in 1 Phenomen’Black, I didn’t curl my lashes do if you compare the first (without makeup) picture and this one, you see quite a difference after only one coat of mascara.

The example eyes were:

Which mean a lighter colour on the inner corner as you can see in my finished eye with full frontal natural light.

But it’s also a little dark like the other example picture I was provided with. This is the same eye, I didn’t change anything, I only turned my face a little to provide with side lighting (also natural light).

Lips
For the lips I used SWF Lipgunk by Urban Decay, I chose not to show you a picture because you’ll fall in love with it and then I have to tell you they don’t make it anymore. This hasn’t been part of their collection in so long, that if you do find it, it’s over 4 years old I think.

Reflection part of the look:

Sooo, I think it went pretty well, I’m very happy with the eyes and I loved every minute of it.
I do wonder how you think the tutorial is with me blabbering more about the products and not giving you the pictures of my products at the start of the topic (eyes, lips, face), but the link to the official website. I chose to do this because you can find more information about the product there (like ingredients or other colours).
Sooo tell me, do you like this or last year’s way better?
What do you miss in the tutorials?

Challenge 14 Gwen Stefani – Video look "Hollaback Girl" Tutorial

A long, long time ago…
I can still remember, how that music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance, that I could make those people dance and, maybe, they’d be happy for a while…………..

(I know it’s not a Gwen song, but I thought about it when I saw how long this Challenge has been unanswered.)
I’m sooo sorry,
I’ve posted about why it’s been so long, and I’ll stop talking about it from now on and tell you all about this very easy look.

The example pictures are a bit blurry so I found another picture to show me how Gwen had her makeup during those times and found that it’s basically the same. The Hollaback Girl eyes are very simple eyes with eyeliner and mascara and RED lips. I’m actually thinking of buying some new lipsticks soon and I’ll talk about that when I do buy them (which I probably will ;) ) but again back to this look. The pictures I mixed together are and .

As you can see in the video she has no defined crease or eye shape. I did do a little of this because I didn’t want the eye to look flat. Also she has more almond shaped eyes then me, so don’t hold that against me.

Here is my final eye:

You can see I’m still trying to grow my eyebrows a little thicker, and there’s a little patch where there are baby-hairs already and the rest just needs to grow in (sooo hard not to pluck!!).

Face

I didn’t take pictures of the foundation etc. because you guys have seen me do this sooo often, by now I think you know how it looks.

I started with a clean and moisturised face before placing my foundation base (Smashbox Hybrid 2 in 1 Luminizing Primer, the softest thing EVER, and something I cannot live without) and eyeshadow base (Smashbox Lip & Lid Primer Natural, honestly the Urban Decay Primer Potion is better but with no vibrant colours this was the choice for today).

It’s been winter for a while so I’m getting an even lighter skin tone then in the summer, and the foundation I use that matches the colour most at this time is Too Faced Magic Wand Illuminating Foundation in New York Light 2. This is such an amazing packaging, honestly the packaging is the reason I bought it, it’s soo easy to bring with you for touch ups and when you don’t sleep at home and you do need a foundation that you can sneak with. The foundation comes from the brush and I use two pumps for a whole face. The thing I was very happy with was the fact that the foundation is actually great, it’s very light and blends well. I sometimes use it in the summer as well simply because it’s such a great formula, only then I have to darken it with some bronzer to not make me look pale.

I used concealer (Smashbox, Camera Ready Concealer in 3.0) under my eyes placing it with my fingers because my brush had just been cleaned and was still wet. For this kind of placement I usually use a brush because it makes it look more polishes because the placement is more precise, but this works too, so a concealer brush is a luxury brush unless you’re a professional or a perfectionist like me.

The next step is some extra under eye brightening with Smashbox Photo Op. This is one of those things I use on days when I don’t wear any makeup and still want to have that “I’ve had a GREAT night’s sleep” look.

All of these steps were set with Make Up For Ever High Definition Powder and a Baby Buki Brush (Smashbox), I usually do this with the Sephora 45 Mineral Powder brush because it’s softer but this was also a brush I cleaned (I did some heavy contouring yesterday and it was sooo dark that I wanted it clean before using it for the HD powder again). The powder is a miracle if you ask me, I LOVE this stuff, it seriously kills all shine and pores.

This is my eye at this point:

On the picture of Gwen (not the screenshot) she’s wearing a little contouring under her cheekbone (high up on the cheek) but kept the colour very much on “the back” of her face.

Eyes

As the eye colour I chose a colour that’s amazing on my skin tone, if you’re pale like me and you need a skin toned matte eyeshadow try and get your hands on this:

This is a Smashbox Eyeshadow called Vanilla and it blends great and looks amazing! I placed it with the Sephora All Over Shadow brush (no. 21) on my eyes and I even put a little under my eyes to make the skin look more one colour.

The Holiday Season 2008 brought the Rapture Collection to Smashbox. In this collection was a get-gorgeous set of 8 luminous shadow duos and two brushes which I got. In this set are some ah-may-zingggg colours and the brushes are the two I go to most. In this picture you see the Eye Shadow Duo called Twilight (talking of Twilight, anyone seen the movie yet? Is it any good??): As you can see this duo has a blue and a white-ish colour. The blue I’ve used on the eyes in the Bedroom Eyes Tutorial and the white is the colour I’m using today as a very subtle highlight to add a little depth to an otherwise flat eye. I would grab one of my 2 no. 15 definer brushes for this, if I didn’t just (you’ve guessed it) cleaned it. I use the normal red handled one for cream eyeliners and the pink one (that came with the Rapture set) for eye shadows. But today I grabbed my old favourite (it’s still one I LOVE, it’s a bit softer so the colour placement is different, also the hairs are a little shorter which makes it a real dome brush) the Sephora Professionnel Platinum dome shadow brush no. 13). I placed some of the colour (blending very well) under the arch of my eyebrows, on the inner corners of my eyes and in the middle of my eyelid. All the places you place a highlight will seem to be sticking out more, to if you have more round eyes then me, skip the last step, if you have very high eyebrows, skip the brow highlight. The white on the inner corners makes you look more awake and fresh. At this point my eye looks like this:

Okay, here comes the part that’s the hardest, getting both eye lines to look the same. I usually draw the start of the eye line as usual and then do the other eye. Then I take a step back and look in the mirror from a little distance and put an inimini dot at the end points (now this point is easier to take off and re-place then a complete line). When I’m happy with that I draw the outline very thinly on both eyes and check again if they’re equal. Here’s how that looks: If I’m happy I fill it up, remember to not use a just
dipped in liner for the point because then you’ll kill the point. The eyeliner I used here was Liner Clubbing by Bourjois in 81 Absolute Black. This liner has a very very thin brush, which makes for a very very thin line (as you can see at the not filled line picture) which I tend to build up slowly into a line the thickness I want.

Four more steps to go now. I whitened my waterlines with Bourjois Noir & Blanc Eyeliner using the Blanc (Eyeliner for inside rim), I also used a little little bit of the black on the inner corners. I didn’t want it to be black, but just to define it a little, so I didn’t move the pencil on my skin, I pressed it like a stamp and then took it off my skin and now it’s slightly darker.

I have darker hair then Gwen so I don’t need a little black eyeliner under my eyes to define them, but if you are blond this might be required, make it a VERY thin line only in the lash line, the best way is to use the press method I used for the inner corner.

I curled my lashes a little using the Shu Uemura curler that’s every-one’s favourite and I have to agree. I had many many curlers in my day, I’ve tried every one I could get my hands on, warming curlers etc. non did the job the way the Shu Uemura one does. Seriously! I took the Cargo TexasLash mascara from the mascara stash I have and gave my lashes two coats of this mascara. The brush is not my favourite but no clumping occurred, so that was good. The thing I didn’t like were that I needed two coats for a decent coating and it didn’t lengthen at all. Usually the mascaras I use still coat lashes when I don’t even see any more lash but this made my lashes look shorter. Also it was very dry and if I now feel my lashes they feel hard. I have no idea how easy this can be removed, but I don’t think I’ll use it again. It wasn’t meant for my lashes, if anyone wants me to send it over for them to try, Holla ;) hahaha.

Final eye again:

Okay, the mascara, I have no idea how to sanitize this thing, it’s only been used today so if there are people who want it, send me a picture of your lashes and I’ll choose the one who’s lashes I think could use this type of mascara most. If no one wants it, then into the trash it goes.

I hope you enjoyed my rambling, I talked more then I’ve done in my look-posts in a while. If you like the additional blabbering, tell me in the comments, if you want me to shut up and show you the eye look and only put down numbered steps, that’s fine too but let me know, okay?

Have a great night everybody!
